It was just a simple fall. Yesterday.

Each year, one in three Americans over the age of 65 fall in their own homes. For older people, any broken bone can be serious; a broken hip—potentially lethal. Research shows that simple safety modifications at home, where 70% of seniors' falls occur, can substantially lower the risk of falling.

For women, a minor fracture could be a major warning.

A minor fracture for middle-aged women could be a symptom of bone loss caused by the onset of osteoporosis, a condition that affects one out of two women by the age of 50. Weight-bearing Exercises for Women and Girls

There are savage shoes in every closet.

Fashion can be brutal. High fashion often means high heels, which can pinch toes and cause structural damage to feet. Women can still look good and feel good at the same time on their feet.

High-heeled, pointed-toe shoes can cause numerous orthopaedic problems, leading to discomfort or injury to the toes, ankles, knees, calves, and back. Most high heeled-shoes have a pointed, narrow toe box that crowds the toes and forces them into an unnatural triangular shape. These shoes distribute the body's weight unevenly, placing excess stress on the ball of the foot and on the forefoot. This uneven distribution of weight, coupled with the narrow toe box characteristic of most high heels, can lead to discomfort, painful bunions, hammertoes, and other deformities.

Texting While Driving is a Deadly Distraction

The statistics on distracted driving are startling. Nearly 6,000 people died in 2008 in crashes involving a distracted or inattentive driver, and more than half a million were injured. The National Safety Council estimates that nearly 28 percent of crashes—about 1.6 million a year—can be attributed to cell phone talking and texting while driving. Simply put, texting is a deadly distraction that can cause accidents, severe orthopaedic traumas or, even worse, death. Spread the word, save a friend.
